There is no way this thing will replace the X if it gets LTE/5g. Every review made it sound like MS solved Intel thermal problems. The temperature difference is not at all what I was expecting.

I intentionally got the red keyboard for the 8 as I have the black with the X. This is probably the first Surface device (other than the Studio 2) that is great for artwork. I will say the drawing in Illustrator feels as good as the iPad Pro M1. In my house, I have not only the SPX, SB3, and Duo 1, I have an iPhone 12 Pro, iPad Pro with the M1 chip, a Mac Mini, 16 Sonos speakers, 3 wireless scanners (fast document, photo, and flatbed inkject combo, a Canon imagePROGRAF Pro-300, Ring cameras, lights, security, and a few Echo Shows. It could very well be that my Eero 6 connectivity problems are clouding my judgment. Have you considered Windows 365? I do use that for my Azure development environment just to keep it separate and have additional power when I need it. EDIT: I still think for those with a Surface Pro X, waiting for Alder Lake or SQ3 makes the most sense. If you have a Surface Pro X or 7, save your money and wait for Alder Lake. The number of perfect reviews cannot be objective.īottom line, if you are new to the Surface Pro, the 8 is fine. I've never felt like Microsoft overhyped or promised a device until now. For a daily portable, always on machine - this absolutely does not replace the Surface Pro X and I doubt it ever will unless Alder Lake works out. MS Office and Edge seem to be the same speed as my Surface Pro X. I will keep the device as a backup if there are problems with my Surface Book 3, so long as the WIFI problems are fixed expeditiously If not, it will be returned.
